As we are nearing the end of 2020, the most daunting year in recent times, and go ahead into this decade of climate action (2020-30) it is imperative we understand what is at stake! The events in the previous decade were alarming. Climate records fell left and right. Hottest year ever for Earth's atmosphere ? Check. Hottest ever year for its oceans? Also check. A shocking reduction in the expanse of Arctic sea ice? Check, check, check. The Arctic experienced 1 degree C of warming in the past decade alone compared to the 1 deg C warming for the planet at large in the past 50 years! Climate Change isn't a myth. And it is not something we ought to 'BELIEVE IN'. It is happening right now and real numbers back it up. It's science and it is undeniably a 'fact'!

The good news is that change is on the cards; although it takes its own due course. Futuristic companies have realised the value of sustainability in their business activities and are well on their way to make impact!

Sustainability Mafia in association with IoT Matrix is holding a panel discussion Sustainable Future.- A Global Wake Up Call!, with top sustainability warriors from varied backgrounds to plan and sow the seeds for a better and more sustainable future. Upon asking these Sustainability Leaders regarding their wake up call or if I may say, their SuS-Mantra, I received very interesting responses.

Dr. Sunita Purushottam, Head of Sustainability at Mahindra Lifespace Developers shared that her mantra is TACT : T- Talk about the urgency, A- Action, C- Collaborate and T-Think ahead.

'As a corporate, it is important to look at Sustainability as an intrinsic way of doing business, and not just a checklist to tick off. Also it is important to recognise that no single entity can solve today's climate issues in seclusion, and cross-expertise partnerships are indeed the future (and the today) of solving all sustainability challenges.' added Mr. Ashwin Kak, Associate Director Sustainability and Agriculture, AB InBev India.

Mr. Som Narayan, Partner and Co-Founder of Carbon Masters is positive about the global opportunity in waste management and remarked that they would want to help accelerate the world’s transition to a low carbon circular economy by building Carbonlites into the leading Bio-CNG and Organic fertilizer brand globally. The unrealised value in waste in immense and creating a circular economy will be a key part of every organisation's sustainability goals.

We also have Mr. Abhishek Bansal, Chief Sustainability Officer of Arvind Group and Mr. Autif Sayyed, Country Lead, Green Building Program, International Finance Corporation joining us on this panel discussion.

Our very own Mafioso, Ganesh Shankar, CEO and Founder of Fluxgen says, 'Reduce-Reuse-Recycle (and Refuse) is my SuSmantra. Adding to that, Indirect Energy and Water Footprint is something I am very conscious before making a purchase.' He will be moderating this panel of experts to bring out their views on tackling the challenges that we face as we bring about Climate Action!

What is your SuS Mantra ? Let's discuss. I look forward to meeting you this Friday, Dec 11th, 2020 at this juncture to create impact!

Your Sustainably,
Chandrashekar Bhat M
